Swimming Pool

The Newstead & District swimming Pool has operated for over 50 years and has been run solely by volunteers since it first opened, although many changes have taken place over the years. Gone are the days of dropping into the local shop to pick up the key for a swim whenever we felt like it. The pool has recently become a incorporated non for profit business and is under contract from the Mount Alexander Shire.    The pool is run by a committee of management, we employ some staff, but the biggest component of operating over the summer season if through a very strong volunteer base, without which we would not be able to operate. Newstead can boast its strong community involvement, we have over 50 volunteers working at the pool each season, comprising lifeguards and kiosk operators.
We welcome travellers to come and cool off for a few hours along side our locals and the patrons who regularly visit us from Castlemaine and outlying areas to take advantage of our late opening times during the holiday period. The facility is serviced with bore water which enables us to keep the gorunds green and fresh in this time of drought.
