Newstead's thriving Community Garden is located on a picturesque site in Layard Street (at the rear of All Saints Anglican Church, Panmure Street).
Visitors and new members are very welcome.
For information, garden notes and details of current activities see our website 'in the garden'.
Since its launch in May 2010 the garden has grown in every way. There are now 18 individual plots, six raised beds and communal areas with crops to share - asparagus, strawberries, artichoke, garlic, rhubarb and assorted vegetables - as well as about 30 fruit trees.
The garden is used as a gathering space, a place for the creation and display of art and as an example and experiment in growing sustainable food.
Workshops and social activities around the pizza oven are popular. We aim to fill the garden with food, flowers, colour, sculpture, art and people.
