Community Planning

What would you chuck, change, add or retain about Newstead?

You and your family will have the opportunity to tell us, as well as comment on line via webpagetwitter and facebook, as part of the Newstead Community Planning Process.

We are building on previous activities, including Newstead’s 2021 Summit in 2008, to develop a “whole of community plan” for Newstead, gathering input and ideas from as many people and groups as possible. This is all leading up to our big planning day on Sunday March 3, 2013, when we will draw these ideas together and produce a plan for Newstead’s future.

Mount Alexander Shire is running the community planning process in other towns. But in Newstead, the Shire is supporting us - we have taken the lead because we believe that local people can do a better job of reflecting the needs and wishes of our diverse community.

Janet Barker has been appointed to coordinate our efforts and ensure as many people and groups are involved in the conversations and thinking about Newstead’s future. Janet will be based at the RTC during the project and welcomes residents to drop in and have a chat, leave an idea, or contact her by phone (0439 003 469) or internet.  We will also be attending community group meetings and events, hosting focus groups of interested people and encouraging local, family and neighbourly discussion. We have developed some key questions and prompts to assist.

If you are interested in hosting a small get together, please contact us. The festive season provides another great opportunity to catch up for food, drink and conversation. Perhaps you might even talk about our town?

Thanks to the Newstead RTC and Mayor Michael Redden for supporting the Community Planning Project.
