Newstead Echo 100 years ago

October 3, 1917.

Mr Crowhurst, a railway employee residing at Joyce's Creek was shot through the leg between the thigh and the knee by a rifle bullet on Friday afternoon last. From particulars obtained it appears that the day's work was finished and the men were riding along on a trolley with a lad named Elshaug, who had the rifle and had laid it down, when something touched the trigger and the bullet went through Mr Crowhurst's leg. The wound although painful was not serious. The lad who had the rifle was under the stipulated age and police court proceedings are being taken.
