To all the visitors to the pool, thank you for your patronage and we hope that you are enjoying your time at our wonderful facility. We at Newstead are very proud of our facility and the way in which it is run. The positive comments we receive are great.

The work of the committee and volunteers has been great – thank you.

We started the season with the school swimming programme where our resident lifeguard/swim teacher
commented that the skills the children are displaying in the water are well advanced. We have since had Vic Swim – and private swim lessons.

Just to let students know: Tai Chi is continuing in 2012.

Classes will be held on Tuesday mornings at the Newstead Mechanics Institute. I look forward to catching up with past students and will welcome any new students who might like to join the class.

Beginners‘ class commences at 9.45am and continues into the normal class which runs from 10.00 to 11.00 am. Cost is only $3 per lesson. Tai Chi in Newstead is auspiced by CHIRP. It is a gentle
form of exercise which is able to be done either seated or standing.

Welcome to our eleventh year of Shotokan Karate in Newstead – ‘my, how time flies when you‘re having fun‘. This year‘s class will commence on Monday 6th February at the Newstead Community Centre from 6.15 to 7.30pm.

We look forward to welcoming both old and any new students (6-14 years). As far as we know, prices, etc will be the same as last year, but will be confirmed at the first class.

Last year Sensei Barry put four brown-belt students on notice for their black-belt grading. Hopefully we can have some good news about this in the next two to three months.

The Newstead Paddle and Canoe Club are out on the water and doing it in style! We have a six seater outrigger canoe (OC6) and welcome adults of any age and paddling experience to come along and try at one of our training sessions. The Tuesday night (6pm) and Sunday morning (10:30am) sessions have been well attended and the OC6 has gone out every session (weather permitting) – often with an entourage of kayaks, skis and even a couple of K1s!     The Newstead Under 17's took on Trentham in the grand final.  The Saints took the game right up to Newstead in the early stages of the contest but Newstead threw everything they had at the Saints to win by 40 points.  Victory was sweet, having been runners up last year.  Coach Matt Taylor praised the boys for their consistant standard of football throughout the year. The team only lost one game during the year.  Well done boys.

The Newstead under 10 ½ Football Team kicked off the 2010 footy season with a round robin event at Maldon last Friday evening. The annual Gala Event provided an opportunity for Newstead to play against a number of teams that it will face in the upcoming season: Maldon, Carisbrook, West End, Wesley Hill, Harcourt, Campbells Creek and Winters Flat.  

Hello everyone.  Another fun Christmas breakup has been and gone (seems so long ago).  Once again we had a great year and we are very proud to announce that our club has two new Junior Blackbelts.  We congratulate Issha and Courtney (our first female Newsteadian Junior Blackbelts).  They completed their grading the week before the breakup.  The presentation of their belts will be shortly after our return in 2010.
